Not wished on New Year, Bangalore woman commits suicide

A 25-year-old woman committed suicide in her house in IISc quarters on Sunday night. Shashi Rekha was found hanging at 8pm when her brother, Suresh, returned home.

A 25-year-old woman committed suicide in her house in IISc quarters on Sunday night. Shashi Rekha was found hanging at 8pm when her brother, Suresh, returned home.

Rekha was allegedly upset since her boyfriend of two years did not call to wish her on New Year. Later,  the duo had an argument on phone. The police said this might have prompted Rekha to end her life.

She left a suicide note, which said she did not receive phone calls from dear ones on New Year's Eve and this hurt her and that is why was committing suicide.

Rekha’s mother is an employee of IISc.

Man ends life

In another incident, a 40-year-old man allegedly committed suicide in his sister's house Gururaja Layout on Sunday. The deceased, Dominic, was an alcoholic and was working at a private firm. He was single and stayed in his sister's house. She used to upbraid Dominic for coming home drunk. This might be the reason for his suicide, said the police.   Dominic ended his life by hanging from a ceiling fan. The incident came to light when his sister went to the room in the evening to wake him up.
