Adoptions can be tricky for the adopter and the adoptee. But, it was a happy day at the CUPA shelter home, as several abandoned pups got new homes.
Many quoted love as their overpowering reason for adoption. V Rajendra Prasad, who participated in the drive, adopted an adorable fawn- coloured lab. The Prasad household has always had a pet. Recently, since their two-week-old lab was stolen, Prasad wanted to check out the CUPA adoption drive. “Few years ago, I had come to CUPA’s adoption drive and had bought a pet,” he says. Prasad, who has two kids aged 10 and 5, firmly believes that having pets makes “not just children sensitive to animals but even adults.”
Binitha Joseph gifted her mother a pet too. She says, “My mom wanted a pet and we chose to come here as CUPA had helped us when our dog had fallen ill.” Elated at finding the right pet, Binitha held the five-month-old with pride. “We’ve heard how some of them are abandoned.” Moved by their plight and eager to shelter the abandoned pups, Binitha says, “We decided to participate in the adoption drive, instead of buying a pup.”
These happy families feel that dogs are not only good watchdogs but they keep family members good company. “It is relaxing to have pets,” said Binitha, adding, “It is like having children around.”
