Currently, Suranjan, principle secretary, higher education, is acting as secretary and convener to the commission and he feels it is tough to handle both. So, minister for higher education Aravind Limbavali is planning to appoint a secretary to co-ordinate between the commission and the state government.

"Prof MK Sridhar from the Canara Bank School of Management, Bangalore University, and a member of the state Knowledge Commission, is expected to be appointed as the permanent secretary," sources told DNA.

"The secretary has to liaison with the state government on behalf of the commission and convey its reactions," Prof Muniyamma, member of the Knowledge Commission said.
The Karnataka Knowledge Commission is a high-level advisory body to the chief minister. Its objective is to transform the state into a knowledge society. It covers sectors such as education, rural development, rural health and e-governance.

Karnataka is the second state to form a Knowledge Commission; Goa being the first. The Knowledge Commission, comprising 23 members, is headed by K. Kasturirangan, Rajya Sabha member and director of the National Institute of Advanced Science.
