A Congress worker and a police informer, Lingaraju, was hacked to death in full view of his wife.

A police informer, who recently helped Lokayukta unearth property worth crores by tipping-off the Lokayukta police to raid property belonging to Azadnagar corporator, was hacked to death in front of his house on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Lingaraju, 50, a resident of Baktha Markandeya Layout, located in Vittalnagar, Chamarajpet.

A Congress worker and a police informer, Lingaraju, was hacked to death in full view of his wife. The deceased's family suspect the killing to have been masterminded by corporator Gowramma's husband, Govindaraju, with whom he had fallen out after years of close friendship.

Incidentally, Lingaraju was said to have been filing RTIs to know details about Govindaraju's properties and pass on the information to Lokayukta and Bangalore police. The shocking incident occurred when Lingaraju left his house around 6.30am to fetch water from a public tap, located around 15 feet from his house.

Around 6.45am, as Lingaraju was filling water in a bucket, three youths, aged between 22-28 years, sneaked up on Lingaraju and attacked him with a dagger, machete and cricket bat. The attack unfolded while his wife was watching from their first-floor house.

One of the killers first attacked Lingaraju with a machete. The blow landed on Lingaraju's face and he immediately called for help, which was heard by his wife. But before help could arrive, the killers stabbed Lingaraju in the neck and stomach. The killers then fled before neighbours could gather.

His wife said,"I was washing the floor when three youths attacked my husband." Lingaraju's younger son, Karthik L, said he was at home when he heard his mother's screams. "I ran out but by then the killers had fled. There was no chance for us to save him. He died on the spot."

Chamarajpet police, who registered a case of murder, said Lingaraju's family suspected the hand of Govindaraju, husband of corporator Gouramma.

Lingaraju was the owner of Kannada tabloid Maha Prachanda.
