A senior officer of the Bangalore Development Authority who retired a month back has been booked for his involvement in an scam related to an alternative site for housing.
The scam came to light when deputy secretary, BDA, Anuradha, took charge after senior officer Basappa retired in April.
The BDA had allotted site number 1927 to Gangaiah, a resident of Jabbar Block, in Magadi, West of Chord Road, a few years back. After his death, his daughter Sharadamma requested the BDA to give her a site since it has already allotted Gangaiah’s site to Rajgopal, a resident.
After considering her request, the BDA called for an enquiry.
The executive engineer of Bangalore North, in his investigations, found that Sharadamma had already been allotted an alternative site at a residential complex of six houses constructed by the BDA.
His report further said that since Sharadamma had had a house and sites in the city, she was not entitled for another allotment. However, Basappa, who was in-charge of the department, ignored the report and Sharadamma was allotted an alternative site at the upmarket Koramangala which was earmarked for public auction. The guidance value of the site was estimated at Rs1.5 crore, Anuradha said.
In her complaint, she said this act caused a huge loss to the state exchequer.
Besides, Basappa, she accused Keshavamurthy, superintendent, and Gangadhar, working under Basappa, for helping Sharadamma.
The Sheshadripuram police have taken up a case against the accused for fraud and forgery and are investigating.
Ironically, Basappa had filed a complaint against his junior staff in July 2010 for fabricating documents to help a person get the site which had already been allotted to others.
Basappa had then sought criminal action against the officer and the person who got the site through illegal means.
