Richmond Circle flyover goes 2-ways

The flyover was often criticised by traffic experts as they felt it was unplanned and hardly used.

Once highly congested and one of the most important intersections in the city, the Richmond Circle flyover, connecting the Kengal Hanumanthaiah Road (Double Road) and Lalbagh Main Road with Richmond Road and Residency Road, will soon be open for two-way traffic movement.

The flyover was often criticised by traffic experts as they felt it was unplanned and hardly used. Even though it was known for having a first-of-its-kind traffic light signal on a flyover, the original plan of allowing a two-way traffic flow later turned out to be a one way traffic movement.

“The plan is still under consideration. We are reconsidering allowing two-way traffic on Richmond fly-over as the HAL airport is closed for passenger traffic and all facilities have been shifted to the Devanahalli airport. Traffic has eased in this part of the city and it is better to allow two-way traffic after studying the feasibility report,” said BA Muthanna, deputy commissioner of police (East).

He said the traffic signal on the flyover will also disappear once the plans come to effect.
“There is no movement of heavy vehicles like trucks on this section after the airport was closed at HAL. The heavy flow of traffic of the past is no more there,” he said.

Additional commissioner of police (traffic) Praveen Sood is believed to have taken up the issue.
