The textbook writing committee has completed submitted its final report to state government. Primary and secondary education minister Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri said, “We are considering implementing the revised textbook in classes I, II, V and VIII from next year. We will take a final decision soon.”

A committee headed by senior academician GS Mudambadittaya has prepared revised textbooks for classes I, II, V and VIII.  “We have prepared a separate syllabus for each division. For example, Bangalore division will have a lesson with details of Bangalore’s geography, important events and noteworthy personalities born in Bangalore,” said a committee member. In textbooks for class I and II, importance has been placed on self-study, with emphasis on illustrations.

The government has already called for 45-day short-term tenders from printers in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.

At least 450 lakh books in 372 titles will be printed. Of the 450 lakh books, 190 lakh are in the sale category and the others are for free distribution at state government and aided schools. The committee has framed textbooks as according to directions issued by the Curriculum Frame Work (NCF), 2005. Experts from National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT) and Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Mysore, have trained writers who drew up the syllabus.
