Sonu Sood mortgages 8 properties in Mumbai to raise Rs 10 crore for needy: Report

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood who has worked hard to help those who are less privileged during the entirety of the lockdown has reportedly mortgaged eight properties in Mumbai to raise Rs 10 crore for the needy. 

A new report has said that Sonu mortgaged the properties, located in Juhu, to raise the loan. The properties include two shops and six flats.

According to some documents accessed by Moneycontrol, the agreement was signed on September 15 and was registered on November 24. The building is located along AB Nayar Road, near Iskcon Temple in Mumbai. A registration fee of Rs 5 lakh was paid to raise the loan.

In addition to this, the report also quoted Ritesh Mehta, Senior Director & Head – West India, Residential Services, JLL India, who said, "Such a philanthropic gesture is unheard of. While these premium properties will continue to be owned by the actor and his wife and would continue to receive a monthly rental, they may have to pay interest and principal against the Rs 10 crore loan." 

For his humanitarian efforts in 2020, Sonu Sood was conferred with the prestigious SDG Special Humanitarian Action Award by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as well. 

The actor was also recently announced as the Punjab state icon by the Election Commission of India, an official statement said. 

The statement quoting Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S Karuna Raju said his office had sent a proposal to the ECI in this regard and they approved the same.

Belonging to the Moga district of Punjab, Sood catapulted to the national spotlight for his work in helping migrants reach their homes during the coronavirus induced lockdown. Sood arranged transport facilities for migrant labourers stuck in various places to their homes and his humanitarian work was highly appreciated by all sections of society.
