The Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starrer Coolie No. 1 is all set for an OTT release on around Christmas, and there have been speculations that the mass entertainer might release in theatres, too.
Putting an end to all such speculations, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Saturday: "EXCLUSIVE... While #CoolieNo1 premieres on #Amazon this #Christmas, an update on its *theatrical* release...
#India: Won`t release at single screens, puts all speculations to rest.
#Overseas: No theatrical release, unlike #Laxmii [released in select markets simultaneously]."
Earlier while talking about remaking Coolie No 1, David had said, "It's my film that I made 25 years ago and the thought of a re-make had never come. What happened is I had to do something with Varun, and I was thinking about what to do, what to do. When I asked Varun, if he liked this film, he saw it and didn't answer. He was later getting a little convinced, as it was a very difficult film for him because we have one of the best actor playing his role, and there's no comparison. At the same time, Vashu Ji said let's do this film, it's a damn good film. That was the first film that Vashu and I had done. So that's how the idea came."
Sharing about the script, David went on to say, "When I started to work on the film/ script, I had to redo everything. If that wouldn't have been ok I am not saying yes."
Coolie No. 1, is a remake of the 1995 hit of the same name starring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor. The film is directed by Varun's father and filmmaker David Dhawan and is set for premiere on Amazon Prime Video during Christmas that is, December 25, 2020.
