Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in titular roles, 'Bajirao Mastani', which released in 2015, clocks 5 years on December 18. 

The epic historical romance film which went on to become a blockbuster hit and is still remembered by the audiences for its great storytelling, opulent sets, custom-made elaborate costumes, songs and attention capturing dialogues, revolves around the love story of the ferocious Maratha general, Bajirao and his second wife Mastani, a warrior princess and the many obstacles they faced.

Interestingly, 'Bajirao Mastani was Sanjay Leela Bhansali's second film with actors Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. In addition, the film was Ranveer and Deepika's second film together as well. After this, they duo went onto star in 'Padmaavat' also directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Originally, Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai were supposed to play the lead roles in the epic period drama that was announced in 2003. Actress Bhumika Chawla was to essay Kashi Bai. After Salman and Aishwarya's ugly breakup, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Rani Mukerji were roped in to play Mastani and Kashi Bai respectively. But the project didn't materialise with the cast the director had in mind. Over the next decade until the film saw the light of the day, several actors including Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, Hrithik Roshan and even Katrina Kaif were roped in to play the lead roles, however, nothing worked out till Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra were finally cast in the film.

Actor Tanvi Azmi was not director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's first choice to play Peshwa Bajirao's mother. Before her, Dimple Kapadia, Supriya Pathak and even Shabana Azmi were considered for the role. However, in the end Tanvi Azmi was cast to essay Peshwa's mother. And to get into the skin of the character, the actor even got her head shaved off.

For her role as Kashi Bai, actress Priyanka Chopra had to undergo extensive 15-day training to learn the dialect of Marathi spoken during the time of the Peshwas. In fact, Priyanka even went on to speak about how difficult playing Kashi was, on her social media account. In a 2014 tweet, Priyanka wrote, "Didn't even realise how tired I was till I touched my bed.#BajiraoMastani is so intense that I'm depleted!#Kashi is one of my hardest parts!"

Crooned by Sukhwinder Singh and composed by director Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself, Bajirao Mastani's song Gajanana, penned by Prashant Ingole, created a world record during the launch of the track. 

The launch was held at Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Sports Complex, Balewadi Stadium in Pune. The event saw the largest formation of Lord Ganesh. Over 5000 student volunteers across India, who had gathered together, created a massive 194-foot version of the God, the largest mosaic of Lord Ganesha's idol ever formed. 

It was mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records for the same.
