Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh: From love at first sight to secret engagement, lesser-known facts about DeepVeer

Ranveer Singh met Deepika Padukone for the first time in 2012 at the Zee Cine Awards in Macau. The Gully Boy actor remembered that she wore a silver gown and when a fan asked about it, he had said, "How can one possibly forget the sight?"

The couple then worked together for the first time in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela released in 2013.

It was love at first sight for Ranveer Singh with Deepika Padukone. He had said, "The first time I saw her, I almost went flat!"

It was during the song shoot of 'Ang Laga De' the unit was sure that Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are in love with each other. Choreographer Terence Lewis had said, "They were dating each other. It was very clear."

While Ranveer recalled prep time at Sanjay Leela Bhansali's house by saying, "Sir called us over for lunch and we were eating and apparently there was a piece of crab stuck in my tooth and he wanted to make me awkward and he said, ‘Oh, there’s a crab stuck in your mouth,’ and I said, ‘Then take it out'. That moment all three of us won’t forget."

While talking to Filmfare, Deepika Padukone revealed how Ranveer Singh was flirting with her he was already dating someone else. She said, "I was at Yash Raj and he was there and he was flirting like it’s nobody’s business and he was dating somebody else at this point and I was smiling to myself and told him, 'You are flirting with me'."

Deepika Padukone wanted to try out casual dating with Ranveer Singh. She shared with Filmfare, "So when this relationship, which I was in ended in 2012, I was like I’m done. I wanted to try out this concept of casual dating. I just did not want to be answerable to anyone. When Ranveer and I met in 2012, I told him I realise there’s a connection between us. I really like you but I want to keep it open. I don’t want to commit. If I get attracted to different people I’m going to do my thing. But nothing happened. I couldn’t get myself to do any of that. At the same time, I did not emotionally invest in this relationship. But now when I look back, six months into it I was pretty much emotionally invested in us. After that, it was when do we get married? I was never unsure about him. Of course, in a six-year-long relationship, you go through your ups and downs but we never broke up. There was no major fight or saying let’s take time off and figure this out. We’ve fought; we’ve had our ups and downs. But we stuck through all of that."

Ranveer Singh revealed how he felt hot and heavy while sitting beside Deepika Padukone during the premiere of Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi. He had said, "Bro, I can't tell you I was sitting next to her and that elbow politics that happens when you are sitting next to each other, that was fully happening. I was trying to watch the movie and all but it was like... Oo, oo, contact, contact and things were hot and heavy. Sitting next to each other was like...there was so much heat there, man."

During an interview with Filmfare, Deepika Padukone quipped that Ranveer Singh and she got engaged four years before their wedding. She said, "We got engaged four years ago. No one knows this.  We got engaged four years ago. Only his parents and my parents and our respective sisters knew about it."

A year before they tied the knot, reports were making the rounds that Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh have parted ways. Quashing the reports, Deepika had said, "He (Ranveer) is someone who has always been and will always be an extremely important part of my life. That’s never going to change."

Remember when Ranveer Singh went down on his knee to propose Deepika Padukone at IIFA Awards in 2015, it was a moment that DeepVeer fans will never forget. Although it was all in the act, the couple still maintained a mum on their relationship.

Deepika Padukone revealed her favourite moment from the wedding with Ranveer Singh to Filmfare. She stated, "There are so many memorable moments. My mother doing the kanyadaan. Also that moment on November 13, when I was getting my Mehendi done and the sun came out. Ranveer and I have a connection with the sun, we love the sun. Everything was perfect. On November 15, after the Anand Karaj ceremony was over, there was one boat to take Ranveer and me back to the hotel from the venue. The sun was setting… it was the first time after our marriage that we were alone. We listened to our favourite song on full volume and literally rode into the sunset."
