Actress Shruti Sodhi, who will soon be seen in the lead role in the upcoming Hindi film Ab Dilli Dur Nahin, has had a diverse career so far.
Shruti Sodhi has had a multi-faceted career, where she started as an anchor, before venturing into films. In her career, she has worked in films in three different languages, and is now heading to Bollywood, as lead actress of the upcoming film Ab Dilli Dur Nahin. In an exclusive chat with DNA, the actress recounts her journey.
1. Shruti Sodhi career beginnings
Shruti started her career as a news anchor in Delhi, working in two channels, before she made her film debut in 2014 with the Punjabi film Happy Go Lucky. She has since worked in Telugu films and even a Mandarin film titled Buddies in India.
2. Shruti Sodhi in Pataas
In 2015, Shruti earned the biggest role of her career till that point when she made her Telugu debut with Pataas opposite Kalyan Ram. “Telugu cinema is very glamorous, larger-than-life,” says Shruti, “and I have had fun doing such different films there.”
3. Shruti Sodhi Bollywood debut
In Ab Dilli Dur Nahin, Shruti plays the quintessential girl-next-door opposite Imran Zahid. “I have played the girl next door in several films so that is something I know I can do,” says the actress, “I have played journalists and singers and homemakers. So, the Deepika Padukone of Cocktail has not happened for me. And those characters are few anyway.”
4. Shruti Sodhi in Taxi Vaala
Shruti says that she gets her dose of glamorous roles through the songs she appears in south films. She was famously part of the hit Taxi Vaala song in Sai Dharam Tej-starrer Supreme in 2016. “Even the commercial filmmakers are doing rooted cinema these days with grounded stories. But I do glamorous Telugu songs. So for me, I get that aspect of performance there,” says Shruti.
5. Shruti Sodhi in Ab Dilli Dur Nahin
Ab Dilli Dur Nahin is a small budget film. Talking about why she chose a slice-of-life film for her Hindi debut, Shruti says, “In today’s time, you see all kinds of films because there are so many avenues. It was essential for me to do a good project instead of something mass commercial and I am glad I did.”
6. Ab Dilli Dur Nahin
Ab Dilli Dur Nahin releases in theatres on May 12 and despite being a small film, it is generating some buzz. Thankful for that, Shruti says, “I am happy. I once did a film where there were six National Award winners with me. I did it in 2015 and it has still not been released. So an actor goes through those phases too. So when, you get a release where people react and appreciate, it is always a special feeling.”
