In a recent development, Narcotics Control Bureau has been granted 14 days judicial custody of prime accused in Sushant Singh Rajput case, Rhea Chakraborty.

Rhea, who will spend the night in NCB lockup, will be sent to jail on Wednesday morning by 10 am. The Bollywood actress was produced before the magistrate late on Tuesday evening, wherein the NCB sought her judicial custody.

Rhea`s arrest came three days after her brother Showik Chakraborty, Sushant`s home manager Samuel Miranda, and his house helper Dipesh Sawant were arrested and sent in NCB custody till September 9 (Wednesday), besides two other drug peddlers Abdel Basit Parihar and Zaid Vilatra, who are also in NCB custody.

The NCB had earlier said that with these arrests, it hopes to "uproot the drugs citadel in Bollywood and Mumbai" amidst talk of several other Bollywood personalities coming on the agency`s radar.

Earlier, Rhea was grilled multiple times by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate, and previously even questioned by the Mumbai Police, but was finally arrested by the NCB, nearly 11 weeks after Sushant was found dead in his Bandra home.

The NCB had interrogated Rhea for six hours on Sunday, eight hours on Monday, and around five hours on Tuesday before her eventual arrest.

Earlier, Mutha Ashok Jain, Deputy Director General (DG), South-Western Region, NCB told reporters that NCB did not recover any contraband from her. He had also mentioned that they would not seek her remand and will ask for a judicial custody since whatever the bureau had to 'cross'  with her , they already had.

Jain added, "We will oppose bail to her. We are only seeking judicial custody but we don`t support the bail. Rhea was sent for a routine medical check-up. She tested negative for COVID-19. Whatever she told was sufficient for the arrest. We have arrested her, it means we had enough."

Chakraborty is the ninth person arrested in the ongoing case by the NCB. Earlier in the day, she reached NCB office in Mumbai for the third consecutive day for interrogation. Her brother Showik and associate Samuel Miranda have also been arrested in the same case. Both of them have been sent to the NCB custody till September 9.
