Ali Fazal has had a busy year both career-wise and at the home front. He returned as Guddu Pandit in Mirzapur season 3 earlier this month. His and wife Richa Chadha’s debut production Girls Will Be Girls is winning laurels at film festivals worldwide. But later this month, Ali will play the most unusual role he has so far – that of a father. He and Richa are expecting their first child.
Chatting with DNA on the sidelines of Mirzapur 3 promotions, Ali talks about how he is preparing for fatherhood. “I have read books on ‘How to raise a Viking’ etc.,” Ali jokes, before adding, “I am kidding. But seriously, that’s all you can do right now. You just have to wait for the experience.”
But the actor agrees that marriage has changed him and that too, for the better. “She keeps me grounded,” he says matter-of-factly when talking about Richa as his anchor, his totem in life. “Marriage is all about laundas getting civilised,” he says laughing when asked to list the biggest change in him post-marriage.
Sharing a small anecdote, Ali says, “I share things, I pay bills. There is this DTH bill that comes monthly and I feel I have adulted. All my life, I have been someone always interested in making puzzles, solving Rubik’s cube and playing chess. But suddenly it’s like wow, I just pulled off this one transaction that was a monthly thing. It’s like I am responsible now.”
Ali and Richa met on the sets of their film Fukrey in 2013 and began dating soon after. The two tied the knot in a small ceremony for friends and family in Lucknow in 2022. A year earlier, they has become co-producers as they launched their own film production company named Pushing Buttons Studios They are now expecting the birth of their first child.
