Bollywood actor and Chairperson of the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII) (Pune), Anupam Kher also has a flourishing career in the West. The actor, who got noticed for his roles in Silver Linings Playbook and more recently, Kumail Nanjiani’s The Big Sick (2017), has now bagged a role in the medical drama, New Amsterdam. He plays a neurosurgeon in the NBC series, which premieres on September 25.
A source says, “Anupam will be away from the country for nearly seven months. He will be stationed in New York and will shoot almost continuously.”
A while ago, Anil Kapoor, who is the veteran actor’s best friend and spends most evenings in Mumbai with him, told us, “I’m so happy for Anupam because he is doing well in Hollywood.”
Anil also added, “I have stayed away from home for a great length of time when I was shooting for movies and web series in the West. I always stayed at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles and booked myself an entire floor. My simple mantra in life is — work hard, but live like a king. I have given Anupam the same advice. I told him that while in NY, he should pamper himself when he is not shooting. I also told him not to cut corners and book himself into a suite that provides lots of comfort and good amenities. After all, you have just one life. We actors work really hard, but we must also realise that when we unwind, we must do it with style.”
Anupam, who left two nights ago, recorded a video that he put up on his social-media handle, saying that he was going away ‘for a period of time’ and while he was excited to go overseas and work, he would miss India. He wanted love from all the people in his country.
One hears from sources that a couple of close friends of the Padma Bhushan recipient are planning to pay him ‘surprise’ visits. Guess the seven months will fly past and before you know it, Anupam will be back at Anil’s home in Juhu, exercising and sharing a meal. Like they say, when you have good friends, life is a breeze.
