Salman Khan sometimes makes headlines for the statements he makes followed by the reactions it receives. Last year, at an event, the superstar spoke about depression and it received mixed reactions from many. Salman stated, "I see a lot of people getting depressed and emotional, but I can't afford that luxury of being depressed or sad or emotional because no matter what I am going through, it works against me."
Deepika Padukone, who was among the first celebs to openly speak about battling depression back in 2015 reacted to Salman's statement saying, "Depression is sometimes perceived as a luxury... (But) It is important to break that myth. I want to clarify that it can happen to anybody from any field,"
Now, during a recent interaction with Vogue India, Deepika once again spoke about Salman's 'luxury' quote. She said, "The word that best describes my experience of depression is a struggle. Every second was a struggle. I felt exhausted the whole time. People confuse it with being a bit sad. A male star said recently that he didn’t have the luxury to be depressed. As if depression is a choice!"
When quizzed if she ever regretted her decision of talking about depression, Deepika replied to the magazine, "Not at all. I felt such relief afterwards. It was liberating like a crushing weight had been lifted off me. I’d do it all over again. Also, it made me more aware of myself."
After talking about depression, Deepika founded the Live Love Laugh Foundation, which creates awareness on mental health in India.
