Starring Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk in the leading roles, Bad Newz was released in the theatres on July 19 and opened to mixed reviews. The romantic comedy, directed by Anand Tiwari, took a decent opening at the box office and has continued to stay steady in its opening weekend.
As per the trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Bad Newz earned Rs 19.17 crore in its first two days. According to the early estimates shared by the entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk, the film minted Rs 11 crore on Sunday, i.e. on the third day of its release. This has taken the film's three-day opening weekend collection to around Rs 30 crore.
Bad Newz revolves around the rare phenomenon of heteropaternal superfecundation, where twins are born to the same mother from two different fathers. In the Anand Tiwari directorial, Triptii plays the role of the mother named Saloni Bagga, and the two fathers' roles of Akhil Chadha and Gurbir Singh Pannu are played by Vicky and Ammy, respectively.
It is the spiritual sequel of the 2019 comedy drama Good Newwz. Starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjhand Kiara Advani in the leading roles, the film was helmed by Raj Mehta in his directorial debut. According to Sacnilk, Good Newwz earned Rs 205 crore net in India and grossed Rs 316 crore worldwide.
Coming back to Bad Newz, the romantic comedy is presented by Prime Video in association with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and Amritpal Singh Bindra and Anand Tiwari's Leo Media Collective and produced by Leo Media Collective. It is Anand Tiwari's first directorial that has been released in the theatres. As a director, his earlier two films - Love Per Square Foot and Maja Ma - premiered on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in 2018 and 2022, respectively.
