As per the trailer, Tripti is expecting a child, but she's confused about the child's father. Soon, she realises that she is pregnant, but with two fathers, Vicky and Ammy. What follows is a rollercoaster laughter ride where the two heroes try to prove themselves as a better father than the other.

Two of the most memorable moments from the trailer are- the mention of Vicky Kaushal's performance in Manmarziyaan, and Vicky protecting Katrina Kaif's photo from Ammy Virk.

As soon as the trailer was shared, several netizens called it a 'promising' comedy film. A fan wrote, "Finally a good comedy film." Another fan wrote, "That Katrina reference and ending Vicky reference was fab." One of the netizens wrote, "Are bhai maza aa gaya trailer dekh ke  amazing chemistry and vicky kaushal comic timing is lit Tripti Dimri looking gorgeous Ammy Virk's Punjabi accent mast." One of the netizens criticised Tripti's choices, and wrote, "I dunno why talented actress like Tripti is falling for such frivolous scripts... She has done a much superior job in acting... Such movies will stereotype her for such roles." An internet user praised the movie and wrote, "Yeh toh dekhni padegi."

Commenting on his role, Ammy Virk shared, "It has been a great experience working with Vicky and Tripti. I am sure our hilarious 'kalesh' on-screen will be loved by the audience. I cannot wait for everyone to experience such a fun-light-hearted comedy." Bad Newz will be released in cinemas on July 19.
