It's legendary actress and style icon Sadhana Shivdasani's 76th birth anniversary today. The actress, who popularised the hairstyle 'Sadhana Cut' succumbed to tumour and left for heavenly abode on December 25, 2015 at the age of 74. The gorgeous diva has a number of memorable performances and some epic songs to her credit.

She married the director of her film Love in Simla, Ram Krishna Nayyar but the couple had no children.  

On the occasion of her birth anniversary, here are some lesser known facts about her...

1) Sadhana was fondly named after her father's favourite actress-dancer Sadhana Bose. She was born to a Sindhi family in Karachi, which moved and settled in Mumbai post-partition. 

2) She wanted to be an actress since childhood. Sadhana even played one of the chorus girls in the song 'Mud Mud Ke Na Dekh' from Raj Kapoor's Shree 420. 

3) The first salary that Sadhana got was a token amount of Rs 1, for playing the role of Sheila Ramani's younger sister in the 1958 film Abaana. IT was also her debut in the country's first Sindhi movie. 

4) Her trademark hairstyle popularly called Sadhana Cut was inspired from the late actress Audrey Hepburn. One of the leading cinema producers back then, Sashadhar Mukherjee, played a key role in creating her signature look. 

5) Though the actress has given a number of hits like Waqt, Asli Naqli, Woh Kaun thi, Mera Saaya, Anita among others, Sadhana was not awarded with any of the leading awards of Indian cinema.
