Financial advisory solution provider Kroll does more than just offer solutions to corporate and MNCs. Every year, the firm comes out with a Celebrity Brand Valuation, a report that the company claims provides a ranking of celebs on the basis of their perceived brand value over the last one year. The list is populated, expectedly by sports stars and movie stars in India. But this year, the big surprise is the man at the second spot, the biggest brand from Bollywood – even bigger than the Khans, if the list is to be believed
Bollywood’s biggest brand is...
Ranveer Singh may not have had too much success at the box office of late, but the star still retains his massive pull with the brands. Perhaps that is the reason that for 2023, Kroll has found in its report that Ranveer is the most valuable brand from the cine industry in India and the second most valuable overall. As per Kroll, Ranveer’s brand value for 2023 was $203 million (Rs 1700 crore), second only to cricketer Virat Kohli ($227 million or Rs 1900 crore). However, Ranveer has beaten bigger and older stars like Shah Rukh Khan (in at number 3 with $120 million or Rs 1000 crore), Akshay Kumar ($111 million or Rs 900 crore), and even Amitabh Bachchan ($83.6 million or Rs 700 crore). Ranveer is even ahead of wife Deepika Padukone, the highest-ranked actress with a brand value of $96 million (Rs 800 crore).
How Ranveer beat superstars in brand valuation
Ranveer's box office failures have not dented his star status. The actor remains one of India's most popular and followed celebs. He endorses a number of top brands, including Adidas, Head & Shoulders, Ching's, Jack & Jones, Thums Up, and MakeMyTrip. In addition, he continues to command a sizable following on social media, with 47 million followers on Instagram and 14 million on Twitter. Some of the brand campaigns Ranveer has been part of recently have been viral, most notably a much-talked-about campaign for Bold Care with adult star Johnny Sins
How does Kroll calculate celebs’ brand value?
Kroll calls the Celebrity Brand Valuation list “a ranking of India’s most powerful celebrity brands, based on brand values derived from their brand endorsement portfolios and relative social media presence”. The firm says that the overall brand value of celebs rose in 2023, largely due to a resurgence of Bollywood with hits like Pathaan, Animal, and Gadar 2. “This year’s study recognizes the expansion of celebrity-owned startups across various industries and the spectacular rise of Indian celebrities as global ambassadors of reputed global brands,” the firm notes.
