Alia Bhatt has been extensively shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Gangubai Kathiawadi in Mumbai. The film is based on the book titled The Mafia Queens of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi. Now, as per the latest reports, a case has been filed against the makers, Alia, Zaidi and reporter Jane Borges for 'indecent representation'. The case has been registered by Gangubai's son Babuji Rawji Shah who has objected certain pages from the book by Zaidi.
Talking about the complaint, Shah's lawyer Narendra Dubey told ThePrint, "Ever since the promo of the film came out, rumours have spread and Shah has been harassed in his own locality. His leg was fractured from being hit. His relatives are also suffering as they are now being known as coming from a ‘prostitute family’."
The defendants have been given title till January 7, 2021, to respond to the complaint registered by Babuji Rawji Shah.
This is not the first time Bhansali's film landed in legal trouble. During the shoot of Padmaavat, the sets of the film were vandalised and the protests were led objecting to Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh starring film. This led to the ban of the film in four states including Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
It was during Christmas 2019, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi went on floors. The film was initially set to release on September 11, 2020. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, the shooting got delayed thus the release of the film.
The male lead of Gangubai Kathiawadi is yet to be announced.
