BeauMonde Towers in Worli, Mumbai caught fire on Wednesday afternoon. A level-III fire broke out on the 33rd floor of the high-rise and according to latest report it has spread to the floors below. Incidentally, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone also owns a flat in the building.
According to Deepika's spokesperson, the Padmaavat star was not at her house when the incident occurred. She was shooting for one of the brands she endorses. They also said that her staff was evacuated and they are safe.
In 2010, Padukone bought a plush four-bedroom apartment on the 26th floor of the 33-storey tower for Rs16 crore along with her father Prakash, a former national badminton champion.
The apartment was purchased from Sheth Developers Pvt Ltd, which constructed the property in Prabhadevi. BeauMonde Towers has a two-level podium. The complex also has two tennis, badminton and squash courts apart from open exercise decks.
Deepika’s decision to buy an apartment in Prabhadevi has taken the film industry watchers by surprise. Most stars prefer to stay in the suburbs, especially between Bandra and Andheri, since most of the studios and offices of production houses are there.
Fire tenders have reached the spot and according to Chief Fire Officer PS Rahangdale, 95 people have been rescued from the building.
