Aparna Bhat had filed a petition to Delhi's Patiala House Court previously when she was not credited in the movie Chhapaak

Delhi High Court restrains from releasing of film 'Chhapaak' without giving credit to lawyer Aparna Bhat, who represented survivor Lakshmi in her legal battle. The restraint will be effective from January 15 for multiplexes and live streaming and for others from January 17.

Delhi High Court had previously passed an order for makers of 'Chhapaak' to credit Aparna Bhat, who was acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal's lawyer on her case. Aparna moved court after she was not credited in the movie even after helping the makers during the scripting process.

The order was passed after the production house Fox Star Studios challenged the trial court where Aparna demanded that the filmmakers should give her credit for her work on the film. They even requested the Delhi High Court to set aside the trial court order.

Prior to this, Aparna had raised her petition to Delhi's Patiala House court demanding credit in the movie, stating she is not looking for monetary gains. After the hearing, the court had passed an order for Chhapaak's release and even asked the filmmakers to credit Aparna.

In her plea, Bhat claimed that she was promised credit in the movie when Chhapaak nears its theatrical release. She revealed speaking to director Meghna Gulzar from 16-19th December. However, Aparna later accused that when she saw the movie during the premiere on January 7, she could not find her name on the big screen which is why she had to move court.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, 'Chhapaak' stars Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey in the lead roles. The film released on January 10, 2020, alongside Ajay Devgn, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan starring film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Rajinikanth's Darbar.
