Nargis's mother Jaddan Bai was musically inclined owing to her mother, who was a singer. Jaddan Bai too made music her profession after her mother. She used to visit a lot of places for her musical performances. The story of how Jaddan Bai got married to Nargis's father is quite interesting.

Reportedly, once Jaddan Bai happened to meet Uttamchan Mohanchand alias Mohan Babu, who belonged to an affluent family of Rawalpindi. He wanted to study medicine and become a doctor, for which he was to go to England. But Jaddan Bai apparently proposed to Mohan Babu and he gave his nod in affirmation. Though, Mohan Babu's family became mighty pissed with him, he went against his family to tie the knot with Jaddan Bai. But all was not so easy for him. Mohan Babu had to change his religion to Islam in order to marry Jaddan Bai, who was 4 years elder to him.

After conversion to Islam, Mohan Babu was known as Abdul Rashid. Jaddan Bai gave birth to their daughter on June 1, 1929 who was none other than Sanjay Dutt's mother Nargis. Since Nargis was born parents having both Hindu and Muslim roots, she was named in both the religions.

As per reports, Nargis was named Fatima Abdul Rashid and Tejaswi Mohan. Later, she went on to become one of the best actresses of Hindi cinema. In Sanju, the character of Nargis has been portrayed by Manisha Koirala
