Diwali is here and the entire nation is gearing up to celebrate the festival. In the film industry, Diwali is all about attending grand parties in designer wear. However 'Thugs of Hindostan' actor Fatima Sana Shaikh likes to celebrate the festival of lights by lighting diyas at home, eating sweets, exchanging gifts, dressing up and most importantly spending time with family and loved ones.
Here, the 'Dangal' star reveals her Diwali plans and shares some fashion tips -
What's you fondest childhood memory of the festival?
Living in Mumbai, where every festival is celebrated to it's utmost glory, my family and I celebrate almost all the festivals. And the beauty of these festivals, be it Eid or Diwali is that you get to share that moment and celebrate the day with your loved ones. For me the fondest day of the year is the New Years. All my childhood friends who live in different parts of the world, come together on that day of the year. It's really special.
Are you more likely to be found in your pyjamas on Eid, Diwali, etc or are you a festival dresser who buys clothes in advance?
I love dressing up for festivals. Especially, when I get a chance to wear a saree or a lehenga.
This Diwali is going to be extra special thanks to 'Thugs of Hindostan'. What are your plans ?
Just going to spend Diwali with my family and friends at home. Will have sweets, light candles, give gifts, which is very difficult because I never know what to give. But it's very easy for my friends to choose a gift, because they know how much I love Fossil bags. After that, I will just hug my cat and sleep early.
Who are your go-to designers for ethnic wear?
Falguni and Shane, Raw mango, Sabyasachi and Manish Malhotra. And going to a good old tailor and getting something stitched.
If you were made to pick between a Sabyasachi saree and a Manish Malhotra Lehenga - what would you choose?
I have a thing for sarees, I would choose a saree over anything!
What's that one fashion tip that you would give to people to dress up for Diwali, this year.
Just wear what you are comfortable in and you'll feel confident
