It's been a decade since Zoya Akhtar forayed into Bollywood as a director. Her directorial debut was Luck By Chance which released in the year 2009 and it was a multistarrer flick. The movie had Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sensharma in the lead roles along with Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Juhi Chawla, Hrithik Roshan, Isha Sharvani and Sanjay Kapoor in pivotal roles. Since then, there was no turning back for Zoya! She went on to direct blockbuster films like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) and the latest being Gully Boy.
Many times, Zoya has been asked about a sequel to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara which starred Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin in the lead roles. But, the talented filmmaker has not decided on it yet. In an Exclusive interaction with DNA, when we asked Zoya, which of her movies could make for a better franchise, she had an interesting reply.
Zoya told us, "Honestly, people want a second movie of ZNMD, but I think the best franchise would either be Luck By Chance or Dil Dhadakne Do. They are so many characters and so many streams and they are ongoing stories. So I think they would make better franchises."
Talking about a decade of her directorial debut, Luck By Chance, we quizzed Zoya, 'where would be Farhan and Konkona's characters now?' To which she replied, "I haven't really thought about what they would be doing."
Currently, Zoya is riding high on the success of her latest directorial Gully Boy which stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles. The film has crossed Rs 50 crore mark at the domestic box office.
