The actor joins Sanjay Gupta’s film headlined by John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi

After playing a quirky principal in Student Of The Year 2, Samir Soni is all set to turn a baddie. The actor joins Sanjay Gupta’s upcoming gangster film, Mumbai Saga, headlined by John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi. While the film went on floors yesterday, Samir will start shooting from August 31. “This is the first time I will play a completely dark character, a gangster and I am excited about it. I have been a big fan of Sanjay’s films right from Kaante, as he is a stylised director. We had collaborated earlier for Alibagh but the film got stalled. I have an interesting character in Mumbai Saga and I also look forward to working with John, Emraan and Rohit (Roy) who is a friend,” says Samir. The project depicts the underworld scene in the 1990s and is inspired by real characters.

To prep for his role, the SOTY2 actor has been watching gangster movies from the ’90s like Goodfellas and Casino. “I just want to see their body language, how they used to dress up, etc,” shares the actor, adding that he has been itching to play a bad guy for a while. “I am fed up of being Mr Goody Two Shoes. Playing a good husband or father is uni-dimensional. There is not much of a conflict. But when you play a bad guy, the range of expressions is huge and exciting,” says Samir.

He has undergone a lot of look tests for the role. “Sanjay is particular about how he wants to present me and has told me I will look like I’ve never been seen before,” smiles the actor.
