Gadar 2, OMG 2 release, review live updates: Salman Khan congratulates Sunny Deol for massive opening of Rs 40 crore

The Independence Day weekend has always been one of the most awaited ones for Bollywood buffs as major films set their theatrical releases during this period to cash in on the maximum advantage of the patriotic and festive occasion. This time too, two biggies are ready to clash at the box office when they hit theatres on August 11, Friday. 

The first of them is Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma's action drama Gadar 2, and the other is Akshay Kumar, Yami Gautam, and Pankaj Tripathi-starrer satirical comedy OMG 2. Both films have been hugely awaited since their announcements and audiences can't wait to watch them on the big screen on their first day.

Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 might secure a double-digit opening

As per the report of Sacnilk, Akshay Kumar-starrrer grows positive growth on Day 1, and the film will manage to have Rs 10-11 crore opening.

Gadar 2 is set to take a monstrous opening, OMG 2 struggles to earn a double-digit opening  

As per trade experts, Gadar 2 will earn Rs 40 crores on the first day. Whereas, Akshay Kumar-starrer OMG 2 will earn Rs 8-9 crores. Read the detailed report here.

DNA India's review of OMG 2

DNA reviewed Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam-starrer OMG 2. In the review, it is stated that Akshay Kumar might have received the top billing in OMG 2 due to his stardom, but the film truly belongs to Pankaj Tripathi. In his extended cameo appearance, Akshay doesn't hog the limelight and lets Tripathi shine. Pankaj makes the audience laugh with his inability to understand Yami's fluent English in the initial courtroom scenes and then debates with her in refined Hindi, presenting his defence in favour of sex education citing multiple historical and moral texts such as Panchtantra and the obvious Kama Sutra. Read the full review here

On Friday. Esha Deol took to her Instagram and cheered for her half-brother Sunny Deol's latest release Gadar 2. Sharing the poster of the movie, the actress wrote, "Today let's hear the lion roar...& reach soaring heights. Best wishes @iamsunnydeol (evil eye, heart emoji)."

Gadar 2 set to open above Rs 30 crore, OMG 2 might see single-digit opening

According to Scanilk, Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel's Gadar 2 might see a grand opening, collecting Rs 35 crore at the box office on day 1. However, Akshay Kumar, Yami Gautam, and Pankaj Tripathi's OMG 2 might see a single-digit opening, collecting Rs 9 crore at the box office. 

Sunny Deol to host special screening of Gadar 2 for President of India on Sunday: Report 

According to a report from Pinkvilla, Sunny Deol and Gadar 2 team are set to host a special screening of their film for the President of India, Droupadi Murmu on Sunday (August 13, 2023) in New Delhi. The President's office requested a private screening of the highly-anticipated movie.

On Friday, Sunny Deol took to his Instagram and shared a sweet video message for his fans on Gadar 2 release. The actor said, "I know you all love Tara Singh and Sakina's family and today you are going to watch that family. I'll only say that the family is still the same lovable family, so when go to meet them you'll be very happy. And if by mistake someone doesn't like this family, then please don't fight, forgive them because there should be only love in the hearts. so love you all." 

 

While Gadar 2 is the sequel to the blockbuster Gadar, released 22 years back. In the 2001 film, set after the horrific events of the nation's partition in 1947, Sunny's Tara Singh went to Pakistan to bring Ameesha Patel's Sakina back to India. The sequel is set in 1971, 17 years after the first film, and here, Tara Singh would have to rescue his son Charanjeet, played by Utkarsh Sharma, from the neighbouring nation.

On the other hand, OMG 2 is the sequel of the 2012 satirical comedy-drama OMG – Oh My God! in which Akshay Kumar portrayed the character of Krishna Vasudev Yadav, who is revealed to be Lord Krishna in the end. Paresh Rawal, Mithun Chakraborty, Mahesh Manjrekar, Om Puri, Murli Sharma, and Govind Namdeo formed the rest of the cast. In the spiritual sequel, Akshay has become Lord Shiva's devotee, who must help Pankaj Tripathi in his fight against sex education.

In 2001, Gadar clashed with Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India, and in 2012, OMG clashed at the box office with Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal. Gadar and Gadar 2 are directed by Anil Sharma, while Umesh Shukla helmed OMG and Amit Rai has helmed OMG 2.
