Kapil Sharma took everyone by surprise when amidst the controversy that followed his fight with Sunil Grover, he took to Twitter and announced, “Will not say she is my better half .. she completes me .. love u ginni .. please welcome her .. I love her so much (sic).” This was more than a year ago. Apart from the fact that Ginni Chatrath had partnered with Kapil on a comedy show Hans Baliye, there wasn’t any information about the girl who had stolen the popular stand-up comedian’s heart. But now that the duo has announced their marriage on December 12, the pretty girl has started opening up about her beau, the low phase that he went through and their impending nuptials.
When and where did you meet Kapil and how did your love story begin?
The first time I saw Kapil was back in my college in Punjab. There were theatre auditions going on, and he was impressed by my acting skills. We regularly kept meeting, since he was directing plays in my college, and that’s how our love story bloomed.
Kapil is known for his humour and wit. Is that what brought you together?
He always makes me smile, even if I am angry, he knows how to make me happy. In fact, whenever there are serious issues, he always gives me full attention and makes sure to get that smile back on my face.
Apart from his sense of humour what else do you like about him?
I like the fact that Kapil is a family man. He respects his mother and sister immensely, and that shows how much respect he will give his life partner.
When did you decide he is the one for you?
I always knew he was the one; In fact, I was the one who fell in love with him. I would take home-made food (with some help from my mom) for him during college days.
How would you describe Kapil?
For me, Kapil is a workaholic, a family man and extremely witty.
Why haven’t you been seen on TV after Hans Baliye?
I wanted to concentrate on my MBA. After completing my studies, I started helping my father in his business and was busy.
Kapil rose to fame spectacularly, but he has been going through a tough time for the past one year. How did you cope with him?
Obviously, when you love somebody, you always want them to be happy. Every person has ups and downs in their life and Kapil is no different. During his bad times, his family and I were right beside him being his support. I was patient and always prayed that this too shall pass. Kapil has a strong will power; I always knew he will get over this, phase, too. He is strong, talented and hardworking and there is no way he would not be able to bounce back.
Now that Kapil is making a comeback is there a chance of seeing you alongside him on TV?
No, I have my own priorities and will work towards building my clothing line which has always been my passion.
How are the marriage preparations going on?
You are never prepared till the time you are sitting in the mandap! Shaadi preparations are on in full throttle, and more than Kapil and I, our families are excited. I will go for the traditional lehenga, while Kapil is yet to decide what he is going to wear.
Any plans of going on a honeymoon immediately after the wedding?
No, Kapil will resume shooting for the show immediately after the wedding and I’m okay with it, as this is the time for him to work hard and post that, we can have as many honeymoons as we want.
