Ranveer Singh’s hooded look in Gully Boy has found many takers

The clothes inspired by Gully Boy are a huge craze. When you find outfits that are inspired by a film or a movie star being sold unabashedly, it means the performer has had an immense impact on the youth

When you park outside National College in Bandra to eat a sandwich or attempt to grab a vada pav outside Mumbai’s Mithibai College, you are forced to stare right at the chalk sketches of Ranveer Singh’s hoodie-look from Gully Boy. The Bollywood superstar, who is the current craze in campuses because everyone believes ki unka time aayega, is actually responsible for dictating street fashion in Mumbai and Maharashtra.

When we spoke to one of the vendors selling fashionwear on Linking Road, he said, “You are aware that Mumbai has these active street shopping pockets like Linking Road, Colaba, Hill Road, Juhu market, etc. In fact, there are some specific markets for streetwear even across Maharashtra. And, the clothes inspired by Gully Boy are a huge craze. Ours is the industry that tries to cash in on popular culture and thrives on the superstardom of our heroes. When you find outfits that are inspired by a film or a movie star being sold unabashedly, you can consider that the performer has had an immense impact on the youth and has become part of the pop culture. Ranveer’s stardom and performance has powered street fashion in Maharashtra. It has given vendors a way to generate income! It’s a big feat.’’

We checked with a leading film designer and he agreed that this was indeed the case!

Lagta hai galli galli mein Gully Boy hai.
