Speculations about Shah Rukh Khan being in talks to play the antagonist in Dhoom 4 have been doing the rounds for over two years now. In fact, while interacting with the media on the occasion of his 52nd birthday in 2017, Shah Rukh had shared that he had not been offered the film as he had told Aditya Chopra that he's not free. At that time, SRK was occupied with shooting for Aanand L Rai's Zero, which released last year and failed to impress the audience.
Now, after the last two releases of Shah Rukh Khan, Jab Harry Met Sejal and Zero fell flat on their face at the box office, fresh reports of Dhoom 4 being pitched in to Shah Rukh have surfaced online. This comes in especially after Shah Rukh walked out of the Saare Jahan Se Achha - the Rakesh Sharma biopic and did not announce his next project as yet.
A recent report on BollywoodHungama suggests on behalf of sources that the folks at Yash Raj Films have pitched Dhoom 4 to Shah Rukh Khan. In case SRK finally agress to be a part of the action franchise, then Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will reportedly make way for new set of cops in the film's franchise. Not just that, the fourth installment in the Dhoom series is also likely to be helmed by a new director.
Back in 2017, when Shah Rukh was asked if he was offered Dhoom 4, he had shared, "With Yash Raj, they don't need to offer me any film. Adi just calls me up and I do the film. But I've told him, Karan Johar and other directors that I am not thinking of any other film till December 2017. They understand and respect that."
In September 2019, Abhishek Bachchan had told DNA, "Usually, whenever Dhoom happens, there are several stories doing the rounds, but I won’t believe any till filmmaker Aditya Chopra confirms it. For all the three parts in the franchise, he just picked up the phone and told me, ‘Okay, we are ready and we are starting the film.’ But there has been no discussion or development on Dhoom 4 yet.” But that was last year.
It'll be indeed exciting to see Shah Rukh Khan making his comeback in an action packed avatar with a commercial potboiler and Dhoom 4 may just fit the bill!
