As Malaal, starring Meezaan and Sharmin Segal, releases nationwide today, here are four reasons why you shouldn’t miss this entertainer.
FUTURE STARS
It’s not every day that Sanjay Leela Bhansali shows his faith in young budding actors and launches them in his production. After giving several stars the biggest hits of their careers, SLB introduces Meezaan (Jaaved Jaaferi’s son) and Sharmin Segal (late filmmaker Mohan Segal’s granddaughter) in Malaal.
THE MUSIC
With movies like Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela (2013), Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Padmaavat (2018), SLB has proved to be a maverick composer. He shows his mettle again with this production. This combined with the expertise of heavyweights T-Series, the music of Malaal guarantees to transport you to a different world.
THE FILM
Directed by Mangesh Hadawale, the movie, which is set against the backdrop of Mumbai’s chawls, captures pure emotions and rustic settings. It is supported by great performances delivered by a talented supporting cast of actors. Bhansali worked closely with Mangesh on the script until they nailed a narrative that would keep audiences hooked.
CREATIVE COLLABORATION
While the Padma Shri recipient has collaborated with Bhushan Kumar on the music of his previous blockbusters, they now join hands as producers for Malaal. Mahaveer Jain, who has backed some promising films, vouches for this passion project, too, as they all bring in their expertise to the film. Interestingly, unlike the grandeur that SLB brings to the big screen, Mangesh’s strength lies in the heartland and in telling simple, pure stories.
Gulshan Kumar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali present Malaal. Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Bhushan Kumar, Mahaveer Jain, and Krishan Kumar, the film releases today.
