Vishal Mishra has just exited the recording studio after dubbing for a song for Isabelle Kaif and Sooraj Pancholi’s Time to Dance. He sounds upbeat because, as he says, music is the only thing he knows to do. The Jaane De (Qareeb Qareeb Singlle, 2017) composer is also excited about his collaboration with Willy Williams, the French DJ and producer known for his club song Mi Gente, which features Beyonce in a version. “The track has a bit of Hindi and a ballad-like feel but it’s something that you can groove to,” he says.
BOLLY AND INDIE
Vishal has a number of big projects to look forward to — Salman Khan’s Race 3, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sonam Kapoor-starrer Veerey Di Wedding; a medley of Rafta Rafta (Kahani Kismat Ki), O Mere Sona Re (Teesri Manzil) and the title track for Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se; Anurag Kashyap’s Saand Ki Aankh, and Swara Bhasker-starrer Aapke Kamre Mein Koi Rehta Hai. “It’s such a fascinating process because you get to live a different life every time you make a different song. I make a fresh composition each time. Every film and situation is varied from the other,” he says. Along with film songs, Vishal is also working on independent music. “That’s where you can satisfy your soul. If you say something from your heart, it touches others’ hearts. You can also cater to listeners who are not into Bollywood music,” he explains, adding, “I want to do everything till I’ve the fire in me to make music.”
BEING MORE ‘VOCAL’
Vishal has mostly composed music so far. For him, “The process of letting someone else live your creation by making them sing is beautiful.” Though, he says that fans liked his singing in Pyaar Ho (Munna Michael). “I want to sing, definitely, but I will be choosy even if it’s my own composition,” he says, “I will drop a single as a singer soon. There are tons of collaborations, too.”
As for other playback singers crooning his songs, he says, “I always look for a higher connection. I can only speak the language of emotions — I don’t know any other. There has to be faith and trust.”
