Rajkumar Hirani, last known for his film 'Sanju', starring Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt, was accused of #MeToo early in the year

'Kalank' promotions began on a great note. The movie even managed to bring alleged ex-lovers Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit-Nene back after over a decade. The two happily interacted with the media at the trailer launch of the film, but soon, the two were sidelined.

Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur went all out to promote their movie 'Kalank'. We even noticed Madhuri Dixit-Nene at various occasions, however Sanjay Dutt went completely missing in action. What exactly was the reason behind that?

According to reports doing the rounds on The Asian Age, the reason for Dutt's absence is his stand on friend Rajkumar Hirani over the #MeToo allegations laid on the filmmaker. Sanjay Dutt had recently come out in support of the filmmaker, and faced a lot of backlash for it.

The makers of 'Kalank' then reportedly had to take the step of sacking Dutt from promotions. It is thus no surprise that Sanjay Dutt was nowehere around the screenings of the movie either. It is however being said that the move has affected Madhuri Dixit-Nene as well, since she is romantically paired opposite the actor in the film.

A source confirmed the same with the daily by stating, “Baba blurted out his defence of Hirani in all innocence. He was standing up for a friend. But the move backfired badly. The team quickly decided to eliminate baba from marketing and promotions.”

Co-incidentally even Rajkumar Hirani faced a lot of heat last year when he screened 'Sanju' to the public. Most of the audiences tagged the film as a whitewasher for Sanjay Dutt's tarnished image. Hirani and Dutt were supposed to collaborate on 'Munnabhai' sequel, however there is no latest update on the movie.
