Is Rajukmmar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor's 'Stree' is tale of 'Naale Ba' witch?

'Naale Ba' witch is an urban legend.

Almost a month ago, filmmakers of Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree teased the audience with an eerie 1-minute-long video in which we hear a nightwatchman tell a woman, "O stree, kal aana. Yahan koi mard nahin hain." (Hey lady, come tomorrow because there are no men in town)

Rajkummar Rao shared the official poster for the movie on Thursday and the full-length trailer is expected to land any time now.

But let's put out sleuthing hats on figure out what is the story of Stree.

The tagline on the poster unveiled on Thursday reads, "Mard ko dard hoga." (Men will bear the pain). The teaser, the poster, and the tagline point in the direction of an urban legend of Nale Ba.

According to the legend in the 1990's Bengaluru, rumours were circulating that told the story of a witch walking the streets of the city in the dead of the night. This witch would knock on the doors and call out the victims in the voice of their mothers. If the door was answered, the person would die.

To stop this witch from killing, people started writing 'Naale Ba,' which means come tomorrow in Kannada. The witch would read the message, return the next day and get caught in the never-ending loop. Writing on the wall worked, so we can assume that the witch knew how to read, plus it's Bengaluru we are talking about.

Could this be the story? Have we cracked it? We shall know the answer when the trailer comes out.
