Jaideep Ahlawat is awaiting the release of the crime drama Jaane Jaan, which also features Kareena Kapoor Khan and Vijay Varma in the leading roles. The Sujoy Ghosh directorial is set to premiere on the OTT giant Netflix on September 21. While promoting his upcoming film, Jaideep recalled the appreciation he recieved from the industry for his spectacular performance in Paatal Lok.
Talking to Humans of Bombay about the Prime Video show which released in May 2020, Jaideep said, "When Paatal Lok came, everybody was locked in their houses due to Covid-19. We were scared. We definitely knew we had done a great job with Paatal Lok, but we didn’t know that after two days there would be bombardment. 48 hours after the release of Pataal Lok my phone started hanging. I cried every single day multiple times because of the phone calls and responses."
The Gangs of Waseypur actor further added that he received calls from Manoj Bajpayee and Aamir Khan, who asked about his acting process in the web series. "I think it was the second or third day after release and I got a call from Manoj Bajpayee. He spoke for about 30 to 35 minutes", he added.
Jaideep shared that after a month since Paatal Lok's release, he was on a video call with his friends when he received a notification that read, "Hi, this is Aamir Khan, please let me know whenever you are free, I will call." The actor was stunned seeing the message and after a few minutes, replied back. Aamir immediately called him back and asked to speak to him on a video call.
He stated that the Dangal actor spoke to him for around half an hour and when he asked him about his acting process, Jaideep replied, "You are asking me about my process? You are the master of this, of preparing for a character, starting from the look of the character", adding that Aamir was really sweet and genuine in appreciating his craft.
Now, Jaideep will be seen locking horns with Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan in his debut film Maharaj. As per reports, the Siddharth P Malhotra diectorial is based on Maharaj Libel Case of 1862, in which the head of a religious section filed a case against a journalist who exposed his sexual exploitation of female devotees. Junaid is said to be playing the journalist, while Jaideep is said to be playing the religious leader. The film is produced by YFR Entertainment, Yash Raj Films' digital arm, and will release directly on Netflix.
