Shahid Kapoor's upcoming movie has received a lot of comparisons with his previous character Tommy Singh from Udta Punjab

Vijay Devekaronda starrer Arjun Reddy became a Telugu blockbuster when it released last year. The director Sandeep Reddy Vanga then got the idea of adapting it in Hindi cinema too. When looking for a starcast, he came across Shahid Kapoor. Interestingly Shahid had played shades of Kabir Singh in his previous movies.

Shahid Kapoor's character in one of his recent films Udta Punjab too had shades like Kabir Singh. He too had temper issues, was hyper and took rash decisions. Hence comparisons between both the movie were at an all-time high since Kabir Singh promos released.

When asked about the comparisons, Shahid told Filmfare in an interview, “Kabir Singh’s reasons to do things aren’t selfish... While Tommy Singh is an empty guy, who’s self-obsessed. He only thinks about himself and later realises that he needs to do something for someone else. Kabir is the opposite. He loves so purely that he actually destroys himself in that emotion and becomes self-destructive.”

Kabir Singh, slated to release on June 21, also stars Kiara Advani as Shahid's lover. Talking about the movie Shahid concluded, “As a subject in totality, it’s a happy film. It's a romantic film and it has its dark parts. Obviously, what will attract you in the promos are these edgy scenes but the film has a lot more going for it.”
