Audience and trade feel the multi-starrer will prove to be a big-ticket venture

It’s a rare occurrence, hence it is being awaited with bated breath. The exciting ensemble of stars like Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt in a period drama set in pre-Independence India is something everyone wants to witness. Bollywood audiences across the world have earmarked a date for Abhishek Varman’s Kalank, the big-ticket venture that releases today. The film is co-
produced by two of the biggest production houses, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Sajid Nadiadwala’s Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment (NGE), who earlier collaborated on the super hit 2 States (2014). This time around, these two enterprising producers are being joined by Fox Star Studios, who have been forging winsome combinations with Dharma and NGE.

To corroborate what we have been hearing about the ensemble movie, veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, “Kalank has generated tremendous craze among the cinegoers. It’s a huge film. And we’ll also be treated to a multi-starrer after a long time. Both these factors add to the excitement. While Varun and Alia are immensely popular with the youth, Sanjay and Madhuri, who have given many hits together in the past, are reuniting after nearly 22 years. Sonakshi and Aditya have their own draw. Overall, Kalank promises magic on several counts. So, it has generated a lot of curiosity.”

Its music has also been climbing the charts in the last three weeks. Pritam has created a versatile album with diverse songs. From the upbeat First Class that has become a dance anthem, thanks to Varun’s earnestness, to the classical Ghar More Pardesiya, which has been made popular by Alia, everyone is humming the tracks. Dancing diva Madhuri’s Tabaah Ho Gaye brought in the semi-classical touch, while Kriti Sanon’s pacy Aira Gaira, which was launched just a few days ago, already has people grooving to it.

The trade is also of the firm opinion that the extended holiday week with Mahavir Jayanti and Good Friday will definitely help collections.

Taran remarks, “Kalank doesn’t look like a run-of-the-mill story. The scale and grandeur were visible in the trailer and the songs. All of this adds to the effect.”

Fox Star Studios presents Kalank, a Dharma Productions & Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment film. Produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta, it is co-produced by Fox Star Studios and releases today.
