Starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan in the leading roles, Kalki 2898 AD has been storming the box office worldwide. The epic dystopian sci-fi action drama has grossed Rs 850 crore globally (Rs 900 crore as per the producers) within just twelve days of its release.
The Hindi dubbed version of the film is also breaking records and has now become the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024. As per th entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk, Kalki 2898 AD has earned Rs 218.90 crore net from its Hindi version in twelve days and has surpassed Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone-starrer aerial action thriller Fighter, which had earned Rs 212.73 crore net in India in its theatrical run.
The horror comedies Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, featuring Kartik Aaryan, Triptii Dimri, Vidya Balan, and Madhuri Dixit, can give tough competition to the box office of Kalki 2898 AD in Hindi. Stree 2 releases on Independence Day, while Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is slated to hit theaters on the occasion of Diwali.
Influenced by Indian mythology, Kalki 2898 AD is touted to be the most expensive film in Indian cinema with a whopping budget of Rs 600 crore. Apart from Prabhas, Amitabh, Deepika and Kamal, the film also stars Brahmanandam, Shobana, Anna Ben, and Saswata Chatterjee in pivotal roles.
