Kamal Haasan has directed Shah Rukh Khan in the historical drama Hey Ram, and the pan-India star made a big reveal about directing SRK in his film. On Tuesday, Kamal launched the trailer of his upcoming actioner Hindustani 2 in Mumbai. During the press conference, Kamal was asked to share his views on Shah Rukh Khan, and also his experience of directing 'Bollywood's superstar'.
In the 2000 film, Shah Rukh made a special appearance of Amjad Ali Khan. Kamal asserted that Shah Rukh Khan isn't a superstar but a fan, a connoisseur of the art'. He said, "We all are just people. I don't see (him as) a superstar, he doesn't see (me as) a super director, we're friends." He further revealed that Shah Rukh Khan did Hey Ram for free. "As a matter of fact, Shah Rukh Khan saab made that film for free. That cannot be done by a superstar, that can be done only by a fan, connoisseur of art, and a good actor." Kamal continued, "I'm ever thankful for him. We don't see all that. You give us these titles, and we very shyly accept it."
In the same press conference, he was asked whether it’s tough to make films that question the government today, the actor said this problem has persisted since the British era. “People were making films even then. We will continue to make those kinds of films, it doesn’t matter who is at the top of the establishment. That’s not just the filmmaker, that’s the citizen’s right to ask those questions.
On the work front, Kamal will soon be seen playing an antogonist, Supreme Yaskin in Kalki 2898 AD. He will also be seen reprising his iconic character Senapathy in Indian 2. Kalki 2898 AD will be released in cinemas on June 27, and Indian 2 will be released worldwide on July 12.
