Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Prabhas star in Kalki 2898 AD

Deepika Padukone's Kalki 2898 AD co-star Kamal Haasan recently made a prediction about her and Ranveer Singh's unborn baby

Nag Ashwin’s magnum opus Kalki 2898 AD is all set to release in theatres this week. Ahead of the film’s release, the makers shared a video of the stars and the producers in conversation about the making and more. The YouTube video, titled Kalki Chronicles, has snippets of the cast’s banter and behind-the-scenes info about the film.

The video features the principal cast – Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone – in conversation with the two producers Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt. In one part of the conversation, Deepika Padukone marvelled at the childlike enthusiasm that the film’s director Nag Ashwin has. “I was in Bombay. It was a long break because we were shooting in different schedules. I hadn’t heard from him in a while. I see this missed call from Nagi and I wondered what happened,” Deepika recalled.

She then added that Nag Ashwin, or Nagi as he is called, had called her to tell her about Kamal Haasan joining the cast. “I just called to tell you we shot our first day with Kamal sir,” Ashwin told Deepika, as the actress recounted. Deepika emphasised on the director’s enthusiasm and added, “Like a child!”

Kamal Haasan interjected and said that the child-like enthusiasm was essential for a movie like Kalki 2898 AD to be made. “That’s what made this film. That child,” he said. The veteran actor then pointed at Deepika’s baby bump and added tongue-in-cheek, “We hope this child will also make a film some day.” The joke left Deepika and Prabhas in splits and even the producers laughing heartily.

Deepika is expecting her first child with husband Ranveer Singh. The couple had made the announcement in February this year and the child is due in September. At the grand pre-release event of Kalki 2898 AD in Mumbai last week, Deepika debuted her baby bump in public for the first time.

Kalki 2898 AD is a dystopian sci-fi film inspired by Indian mythology. Director Nag Ashwin says he envisioned it as a sort of sequel to the epic Mahabharat. Intended to be the first part of a two-film story, the film stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan. Kalki 2898 AD releases in theatres on June 27.
