Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is a Mecca for launching new talent, whether it’s actors or directors. The acclaimed filmmaker not only launched Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra with his directorial, Student Of The Year (2012) but also gave a big break to directors like Ayan Mukerji (Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani), Abhishek Varman (2 States) Shakun Batra (Kapoor & Sons) and Shashank Khaitan (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania). Now, KJo is geared up to launch another young girl, Janhvi (daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor), who will be serenaded by Ishaan, the boy who walked away with numerous accolades for his debut movie, Beyond The Clouds, which was helmed by acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi. This fresh-as-a-daisy pair will be seen in Shashank’s Dhadak that is an adaptation of Nagraj Manjule’s mammoth Marathi hit, Sairat (2016).
Karan says, “We are honoured and excited to collaborate with Zee Studios on the official adaptation of the immensely celebrated and loved Sairat. Dhadak is Shashank’s third film post his Dulhania series and a true labour of love. We present Janhvi and Ishaan to the world today and can’t wait for the viewers to experience their innocence and magic on celluloid.”
Sujay Kutty, Business Head, Zee Studios, says, “Zee Studios believes in creating and backing rich content that resonates with the audiences. Dhadak is very special for us as this is our first collaboration with Dharma Productions. Shashank has done great work in adapting our Marathi blockbuster, Sairat. We are excited and hopeful that Dhadak will be as successful as Sairat and will win hearts worldwide.”
Dhadak, produced by Karan Johar, Zee Studios, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta, releases on July 20.
