Luka Chuppi has proved to be Kartik Aaryan’s career-best opener and biggest weekend. It earned Rs 32.13 crore on its opening weekend and even passed the Monday test by raking in Rs 7.90 crore, which makes it a total of Rs 40.03 crore in the first four days. Quite naturally, Kartik has emerged as the new blue-eyed boy of the box-office. When asked how he felt about his romcom’s BO performance, the pin-up sensation said, “I knew that we were making a film with good content, which would surely appeal to the youngsters and a family audience. Luka Chuppi is being loved tremendously by families and it’s proving to be an entertainer on all counts. It’s humbling and an incredibly happy moment for me. All the love that Guddu (my character) is receiving is special. As an actor, I always wanted to do different roles and when you get this kind of encouragement from people, it’s surely another high for me.”
Last year, Kartik had scored big with his performance as the wicked-yet-protective friend Sonu in Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. This time, he’s making everyone go gaga over his lover-boy Guddu. When asked what was the transition like from playing a bromantic hero to a romantic one, he was all smiles and added, “I wanted to break the mould and do something different with Guddu. It was not an easy role to pull off compared to all the other ones that I have played before. He is nothing like the flamboyant Sonu and to transform on screen and make even audiences believe was the challenge. But I am overwhelmed with their love and that makes me believe I’ve done my job convincingly.”
The epic bidaai scene in the film has also struck a chord with viewers. People who have watched the film have either tweeted about it or captured it on their Instagram story, giving rise to the #GudduKiBidaai hashtag. Kartik revealed that the shot was the clincher for him while signing the movie. He admitted, “When Luka Chuppi’s script came to me, and I was halfway through the narration, I read the Guddu Ki Bidaai scene and decided, I’m doing this film. I just knew, that this movie would be a joyride and an entertainer.” While the original track from Hum Aapke Hai Koun..! (1994) made everyone cry, this one made everyone laugh. “And that was our aim, our director (Laxman Utekar sir) has shot it so well. That’s the scene in which I have been tagged several times on social media,” added the actor.
