We all have heard about 'surprise hits', small-to-medium budget movies that were not expected to sustain at the box office, but those titles perform exceptionally well and break all the preconceived notions. This year, the horror-comedy Munjya was one such fine example. 

Today, we will discuss another movie, that had 4 newcomers, and was made on a small budget. The film had little to no pre-release buzz. Yet, the film went on to become a super hit. This film was released in a year that witnessed the phenomenon of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Even though the film was made in Rs 2.50 crores, it went on to earn 4 times more than the budget.

Style (2001), the romantic drama directed by N Chandra marked the debut of Sharman Joshi and Sahil Khan. The movie also stars Riya Sen, Shilpi Sharma, Tara Deshpande, Darshan Jariwala, and Shakti Kapoor in key roles. 

The actor who rejected Style

As per the media reports, Shahid Kapoor was approached for the film, but he rejected the film and waited for his debut for two years. After Shahid rejected the film, Sharman was roped in.

Style was released in cinemas on December 28, 2001. Despite earning mixed to negative reviews, Style was a commercial success. Made on a budget of Rs 2.50 crores, the film went on to earn Rs 8.84 crores, becoming a sleeper hit at the box office.
