From Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan to Rajinikanth, many Indian actors struggled to survive before they tasted stardom and became one of the richest actors in the country. Another such actor, who was mocked for his looks, became a star.

The actor we are talking about once worked as a watchman, faced many rejections due to his looks, and was called ‘ugly’. However, he is now a Bollywood star, who has given several hits and blockbusters. He is none other than Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui was born in Mussafarnagar, spent most of his youth in Uttarakhand, and after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry, Nawazuddin decided to support his family. He worked as a chemist for a brief period of time and then left for Delhi to pursue his dream of acting and join the National School of Drama.

However, he had to struggle to make a living in Delhi. In an interview with Humans of Bombay, the actor revealed how he used to work as a watchman or sold coriander for survival. Nawazuddin said, "Financially, I wasn't well off. I would borrow money from my friends and would promise them to return in two days. Later, I would borrow from someone else and pay the first person back. Lived in flat with four other people."

Nawazuddin further talked about how he took up odd jobs for survival and said, "Sometimes as a watchman, sometimes selling coriander. I even held acting workshops."

The actor also recalled how he faced rejections due to his looks and said, “I’m the ugliest actor – physically – in the film industry. Main toh yeh maanta hoon. Kyun ki main shuru se yeh sab sunte aa raha hoon aur abhi maanne bhi laga hoon (I have been hearing it for so long that I’ve started to believe it. I have no complaints about the film industry).”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, in a recent interview, revealed that when he was jobless during his days in NSD, he worked as Kamal Haasan’s dialogue coach in the movie Abhay. Recalling the time he told Filmfare, “A senior of mine from NSD asked me if I’d like to accompany him to the South and help Kamal ji out. I was jobless at the time, I was struggling, so I agreed. I would have the script with me, and I would correct him if he made any errors.”

Despite facing numerous struggles the actor became a star. He has been a part of several hits and blockbusters including Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sarfarosh, and more. The actor continues to impress everyone with his performances and reportedly earns Rs 10 crore per film.
