Aamir Khan is possibly one of the first superstars, who has acted spontaneously, following the #MeToo Movement that has gripped the nation. In the wake of this situation, the Dangal actor released a statement in which he wrote, “Two weeks ago, when traumatic #MeToo stories began emerging, it was brought to our attention that someone we were about to begin work with has been accused of sexual misconduct. Upon inquiry, we found that this particular case is sub judice, and that the legal process is in motion.”
Aamir further added, “Without casting any aspersions on anyone involved in this case, and without coming to any conclusions about these specific allegations, we have decided to step away from this film.” The actor’s comment was directed at filmmaker Subhash Kapoor, who was supposed to direct the Gulshan Kumar biopic, tentatively titled Mogul, which was to be co-produced by Bhushan Kumar and him.
The Jolly LLB director was accused of molesting actress Geetika Tyagi and a video proof was also put out a few years ago. After a complaint was filed, Kapoor was then arrested and released on bail but the case is still on.
For a short while, it was being assumed that besides co-producing Mogul, Aamir may even play the lead. But we hear Bhushan has already made a choice and won’t lose Aamir at any cost. When we reached out to the producer, he texted us back, “It is our foremost duty to make our industry safe for everyone, make an industry that creates an environment of equality and a better place to work. With the ongoing proceedings against the director that is brought to our notice, everyone at T-Series has decided to not work with him.”
