The trailer of ‘Mulk’ follows the trials and tribulations of a Muslim family

The teaser of Taapsee Pannu, Rishi Kapoor, Rajat Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana's much-anticipated courtroom drama 'Mulk' was unveiled on July 9 and it's much more than what everyone had expected.

Based on a true incident, the 2-minute-40-second-long video higlights the plight of Murad Ali Mohammed (Rishi Kapoor) whose son Shahid Mohammed (Prateik Babbar), one of the prime suspects behind a bomb blast, has gone absconding.

The police arrests Murad and other members of the family assuming that they support their son's involvement in the terror attack. Rishi Kapoor's character is soon accused of being a traitor. His family is asked to go to Pakistan and also prove their loyalty to the country they have spent their entire lives in.

Amidst all this chaos, enters Aarti (Taapsee Pannu), a Hindu lawyer who takes the onus of fighting for the Muslim family. Mulk, by the looks of the trailer, aims to highlight the issue of islamophobia. It challenges the several perceptions we have about different religions.

This is Taapsee's second court-room drama after 'Pink' only this time she is on the other side of the witness box. She is convincing as an emotionally-driven lawyer who has made a solemn promise to bring justice to the family. Whether Aarti is related to Murad's family is still unkown.

Rishi Kapoor is simply phenomenal in the role of an ageing-man embroiled in a rather humiliating court case. The actor manages to humanize the otherwise dramatic character.

Ashutosh Rana stands out in the trailer in the role of a powerful prosecutor as he delivers gut-wrenching dialogues like, 'Ye Dharma ke naam pe nirdosh logo ki hatya karte hain aur phir baadme kehte hain ki har musalman aisa nahin hota. (People like them first kill innocent people and then say, not every muslim is a terrorist.)'

“This is a film which we all have done with our hearts because of the topic it deals with. It’s purely a passion-driven project for each and every member of the cast and crew. The energies on the set were so good and it drove us all to finish the film in record time. It has been an extremely satisfying experience to do Mulk,” Taapsee had earlier said in a statement.
