In an exclusive conversation with DNA, Naila Grrewal reflects on her less screentime in Ishq Vishk Rebound and the film's underperformance at box office.
After impressing everyone with her performance in Maamla Legal Hai, Naila Grrewal is now winning hearts with her performance in Ishq Vishk Rebound. The film, however, failed to perform well at the box office despite an ensemble cast including Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, and Jibraan Khan.
In an exclusive conversation with DNA, Naila Grrewal, who plays Riya, environmentalist, and Rohit Saraf's love interest in Ishq Vishk Rebound, talks about her less screen time and the underperformance of the movie at the box office.
Talking about the underperformance of Ishq Vishk Rebound at the box office, Naila said, "To be honest, I am just looking at the positives Riya. The Target audience for whom we made the film, they are really enjoying it. Daily I have been receiving messages from boys and girls telling me ma’am we have watched it for the second and third time and we love it. It is connecting with the target audience, it is connecting with the people in general and I am just looking at the positives."
She added, "The fact that it has made whatever numbers it has made till now, it’s a blessing in a time we are living right now where not so many people are going to the theatres like they used to before. So I am just looking at the fact that whoever has gone has enjoyed it. After all, everything is a learning curve. We have received a lot of love and we have also received criticism and that’s fine. That’s the charm of being a performer. We continue to work upwards and onwards from here."
Naila Grrewal opened up on whether the less screen time in Ishq Vishk Rebound affected her and said, "So the thing is I shot for Ishq Vishk Rebound before I did Maamla Legal Hai. But it so happened that Maamla Legal Hai was released before. The thing is that I have always approached my work in a way that I don't bound myself to do a lead heroine part or not. I just try to focus on what I have been given and what can I add to it. Will I make this character exciting? That is what I look for."
She added, "I don’t get bogged down by the title that am I the lead because I feel nowadays the audience has really changed. They have evolved and they are smart enough to know which character they like without you telling them who is the lead or who is not. I don’t need to run behind the title. I know that if my work is good people are going to see that and gravitate towards the characters I play. Definitely, I aim to do much more meatier roles but with Ishq Vishk Rebound, it’s special because I have never played this college girl or done this kind of film before. So this is just the start."
Ishq Vishk Rebound is a romantic comedy film directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari and produced by Ramesh Taurani and Jaya Taurani under Tips Films. It is a spiritual sequel to the 2003 film Ishq Vishk starring Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao, and Shenaz Treasurywala. The film was released in theatres on June 21 and has collected only Rs 5.8 crore since then.
