Critically acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is all set to reunite with director Kabir Khan for his upcoming film based on 1983 World Cup.
According to Mumbai Mirror, the Haraamkhor actor has been approached for the film which has Ranveer Singh in the lead.
The film based on India's Cricket World Cup victory of 1983, will see Nawaz playing the coach of the winning team.
The 1983 Prudential Cup is a celebratory milestone in the history of Indian cricket. The final was between India and West Indies at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on June 25.
While casting for other central characters is still in process, it is confirmed that the actor will share screen space with Ranveer Singh in the film.
The actor has been in talks with the film’s team for a while now and is expected to be on board soon.
This is the second time Nawaz and Kabir have teamed up. Earlier they had come together for the Salman Khan-starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan in which Nawazuddin had played a Pakistani news reporter.
Speaking about the project, the director had earlier told Mumbai Mirror, “I had no idea then that from that day on cricket in India would change forever. As a filmmaker, the journey to that win, filled with the raw energy and sheer passion of a young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. It’s great to have Ranveer come on board as Kapil Dev, as honestly, I could see no one else in the role since I started working on the script.”
Directed by Kabir Khan, the film will go on floors later this year and will hit the silver screens in August 2019.
