After starring in multiple blockbusters in Tamil film industry, Nayanthara made her Bollywood debut with Atlee-directed Jawan. The film, which is on its course to become one of the highest-grossing films in Indian cinema, features Shah Rukh Khan in a double role and Deepika Padukone in a special appearance.
Ater two weeks since its release, a new report claims that Nayanthara is upset with the director Atlee for 'sidelining' her role in Jawan. A source was quoted telling Hindustan Times, "She has been very upset with Atlee because her role was chopped in the film. Also, Deepika’s (Padukone) character was elevated and Nayantara’s part was significantly sidelined."
The source also added that the actress has decided not to take up any Bollywood projects in the future. "It was not a cameo at all. Jawan was almost made to look like an SRK-Deepika film. Nayanthara is the leading actor down south, and hence, she was not happy with the treatment of Jawan. And that can well be the reason why we might not see her in a Bollywood project, at least not anytime soon", the report read.
Amid these reports, Nayanthara wished Atlee on his 37th birthday on Thursday, Septemer 21, when she took to her Instagram Stories, shared a few of her behind-the-scenes shots from Jawan, and wrote, "Happy birthday Atlee. So proud of you", adding a couple of hugs emojis.
Jawan is not the first collaboration between Nayanthara and Atlee as the filmmaker has previously directed her in his debut film Raja Rani, a romantic comedy drama, in 2013 and Bigil, an action sports drama, in 2019. Both movies were successul at the box office.
